The National Trust
About The National Trust
We're a charity that looks after special places – for ever, for everyone. We look after historic houses, gardens, mills, coastline, forests, farmland, moorland, islands, castles, nature reserves, villages, pubs and even a goldmine. And we’re as much about people as the places in our care.
But we do so much more too. We run a vast retail chain and a 151-strong outlet catering business. And because most of the work we do is affected by wider global issues, our interests extend far beyond just bricks, mortar and land in our care. We speak up on big issues affecting the coast, countryside and heritage. And all the while we’re welcoming around 19 million visitors a year. It’s quite a task.
How would we describe working with the National Trust? Well it depends who you ask, and because we’re different things to different people, there’s one phrase that keeps cropping up: an adventure. An enjoyable, learning, exciting, rewarding adventure. Some have called it a journey of discovery. We want you to love what you do, whatever it is that you’re doing. And we’ll help you get better at it too, with training, support and development. If you want to study for professional qualifications relevant to your area of work, we’ll give you all the practical help we can.
