HM Revenue & Custom’s (HMRC) Enforcement & Compliance business is all about protecting the UK economy and bringing in the money that provides for UK public services. Your challenge is to use your specialist accountancy skills to provide advice, guidance and support to help make sure that the right money is paid at the right time. Tax avoidance and evasion have been highly publicised, this is your chance to make a difference, help promote equality and make sure everyone pays their fair share of tax. We have opportunities within three challenging areas.
You will be part of a dynamic team of Forensic Accountants who use their accountancy knowledge and investigative skills to analyse and present information and advice to criminal investigators, prosecutors and the Court. Forensic Accountants don’t just look at and analyse numbers, they use their understanding of business information, investigative techniques, systems and procedures, and think laterally to uncover accounting irregularities.
You’ll work closely with other accountants and insolvency specialists on a national basis to advise tax specialists on complex accounting matters that affect profits chargeable to tax. You’ll utilise your commercial experience in discussions with taxpayers and agents and will work closely with operational teams examining books and records and building capability.
You will work in a national team providing specialist commercial and accountancy advice on a varied customer base including large and complex businesses, public bodies and smaller sized entities. In addition you will have opportunities to support policy matters, deliver training and advise on current and developing accounting standards.
We are recruiting at a number of levels, from professionals with experience of applying accountancy practice in commercial situations, and in preparing and auditing business accounts to newly qualified accountants.
As a minimum, you’ll need a recognised accountancy qualification and continuing membership of one of the following CCAB accountancy bodies: ICAEW, ICAS, ICAI or ACCA.
All roles require a thorough understanding of business information, coupled with a highly analytical and flexible mind. The ability to solve complex problems, both independently and in collaboration with others, is essential. For more senior roles, you’ll also need the expertise and experience to appear credible to courts, tribunals, accountancy firms, taxpayers and senior HMRC officers.
