About us

Here at the Office for National Statistics (ONS), we provide the data that shapes our nation.

From the economic future of the country, to the provision of public services, statistics are vital to every imaginable area of our lives. Our vision is to be the place where people come first for trusted statistics. We want to change the way people see us. We want more people to use the data we provide and understand its relevance.

About the role

Finance sits at the heart of our vision. In order to drive our strategies forward, it is crucial that we are making informed, credible and efficient financial decisions. For this, we rely on the skills and intelligence of our dedicated Finance team.

Working closely with Senior Managers and key stakeholders on high profile projects, you’ll deliver innovative financial solutions that are integral to our success. Project Managers and Directors will look to you for precise financial analysis and expertise on a range of business requirements. You’ll examine large, complex data sets with a keen eye for detail, translating your findings in a way that is clear and easy for people at all levels to understand. More than just producing financial reports and models, this role is about looking for solutions too. You’ll use your analysis skills and commercial acumen to identify areas for change and provide recommendations that will help to shape the future of our organisation.

About you

Alongside a degree (or equivalent) and a CCAB qualification, you’ve a wealth of financial analysis experience. Your commercial knowledge is impressive and you have a good understanding of the challenges organisations face. Of course, you’re confident managing large amounts of complex data, pinpointing areas for investigation and highlighting risk. Proficient in advanced Excel and financial modelling, you’ll be comfortable building robust models from scratch. We’re looking for someone who has all the right skills but isn’t afraid to think outside the box or do something innovative for the benefit of the organisation. Your communication skills should be second-to-none, whether you’re presenting to external parties, such as the HM Treasury or Cabinet Office, or liaising with other teams. As this role offers great exposure to decision makers and senior managers, you’ll be credible and influential with the drive to make your mark.

Working at the Office for National Statistics

We’re welcoming, friendly community of professionals, who are relaxed yet knowledgeable. We’re fast-paced, motivated and passionate about what we do. By joining us, you’ll make a real difference. We’re also committed to helping you achieve a healthy work/life balance by offering flexible working options and a generous holiday allowance. And we’ve some impressive on-site facilities too.
