The Royal Navy provides worldwide military engagement and support on land and sea throughout the year and has an operating budget of £2.5 billion per year.  Expenditure encompasses a full range of military activities and support across the globe. It is also responsible for expenditure of £3.5 billion per year on procurement and maintenance of maritime equipment capabilities.

Reporting to the Deputy Financial Controller, the Financial Accounting Manager is responsible for a team of 8 and provides essential interfaces with a wide and diverse range of Stakeholders.  A key responsibility is the consolidation and reporting of the monthly management accounts and year end statutory accounts, also included is the management of the annual audit programme.  The post also has responsibility for overseeing the Finance Team communications plan and financial system reporting and maintenance.

Competence/Skills:

There is an essential requirement to have a thorough understanding of financial management processes and the ability to apply this practically. The ability to deliver at pace, accurately presenting and interpreting complex financial data is essential, as is the requirement to be IT literate in Microsoft applications.  Previous experience of financial and management accounting, including the operation of accounting packages, is essential and preferably within a large scale organisation.

You must have the ability to communicate and influence at senior levels and take the initiative to drive improvements in the organisation, whilst using sound judgement to inform decision making.  Comfortable working in a complex and fast-paced environment, you’ll be resilient and flexible in the face of tough challenges.  Previous experience of managing staff at all levels is required.

Essential Qualifications:

CCAB or equivalent qualified accountant or passed finalist and having experience in a public sector environment would be an advantage for this role.  

Depending on eligibility the post offers relocation expenses.

Depending on qualifications the following allowances will apply:

Qualified Accountants recruitment and retention allowance £3,000 pa and an additional 13% specialist allowance.
