About the role
As Senior Assistant County Treasurer, you’ll maintain a strategic vision as you oversee the entire service support finance function of the Council as you work to optimise resources and improve our ways of working. Leading a team of eight Head Accountants who support functions across the Council, you’ll ensure the team are working in a unified way and are equipped to achieve the standards of financial competence and expertise required. To ensure each business area is able to achieve their targets, we’ll look to you to influence change and ensure that the strategic aims of the authority are delivered – inspiring teams to embrace changes and deliver improvements. You’ll also be required to work with elected Members, attend budget meetings and ensure the production of a high quality budget. Considering the financial implications of service developments and the wider impact on the Council objectives, you’ll maintain a clear vision in helping us to achieve our ambitions.
Overseeing the finances for every service in the council remit is a huge challenge. That’s why we’re looking for a visionary who’s driven and resilient to join us. Whether you come from the public or private sector, you’ll have a flexible approach and considerable experience dealing with the complex and political nature associated with this role. Credible and authoritative, you’ll be open to new ways of working and not afraid to challenge others when necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must, as is the ability to meet conflicting deadlines. Armed with the ability to work with elected Members, you’ll be able to apply your professional knowledge to draw conclusions, influence stakeholders and resolve conflicting issues and budgetary demands. It’s a big role that needs a big character to really take charge and make it their own – whilst always keeping the Council’s strategy at the heart of every decision you make.
