Description

A leading Higher Education organisation based in Yorkshire and the Humber are looking for an experience Finance Research Grants Manager for an initial period of 3 - 6 months.
  • Ensure the provision of an effective and efficient management accounting function for all research and similar activities
  • Oversee the financial administration and control of the total research grant income of the University
  • Support the Finance Planning and Strategy team with their preparation of research budgets and forecasts.
  • Oversee and report on the application of bursaries, studentships and stipends.
  • Exercise the relevant delegated authorities assigned to the post where applicable
  • Act, when required, as deputy to the Head of Specialist Accounting
  • Develop processes and procedures to ensure that projects are managed in efficiently, in compliance with the
  • University's financial regulations and funder terms/conditions, including ongoing liaison with PIs and Heads of Schools over the life of the projects.
  • Ensure the timely raising of financial claims and compliance with contractual requirements to maximise cash flow
  • Provide training where required to PIs on project financial administration
  • Develop standard and bespoke reports to meet the needs of PIs and other users
  • Provide expert knowledge and guidance to PIs and Heads of Schools on the financial regulations pertaining to their grants
  • Manage the transition of research projects from Research and Enterprise Services (pre-award) to the post-award activities in the Research Accounting team.
  • Ensure the preparation of accurate period and year end reports on project / research activities to enable effective management and financial reporting to both internal and external users
  • Act as the lead on all external audit reviews and ensure all research and other projects comply at all times with audit requirements
  • Attend where necessary any departmental, University or Council meetings to present reports and similar items that require sign off and endorsement by the relevant committees or groups
  • Assist in the preparation of the research-related returns, KPIs and statistics.
  • Liaise with funding agencies, external bodies and research councils as appropriate
  • Ensure support is provided and, where applicable, attendance of team staff is exercised at school / area research meetings and similar, if required by the school / area
  • Work and liaise with Research and Enterprise Services colleagues to ensure the seamless flow through of projects and maximisation of income where applicable
  • Ensure the work of the team supports and enhances the strategic goals of the University especially as regards research income generation and performance and provide guidance and expertise to assist in the achievement of those goals
  • Act as the lead contact for all post-award research accounting and similar matters and actively engage in related group forums
  • Ensure knowledge on funding policy, funders policies, accounting treatment and other related matters are comprehensive and up to date within the team
  • Attend any relevant sector groups, networks or meetings as a representative of the University and to promote exchange of good practice
  • Attend any internal groups, committees and meetings relating to the growth and delivery of research activity within the university as the financial expert on post-award research accounting matters


Profile

Ideally you will be a Qualified Accountant ( ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CIPFA ) but extensive experience within research grants and good all around accountancy knowlege are the most important criteria for this role.

Job Offer

£30,000 - £40,000 depending upon relevant experience
